No More Carseats

When my son turned eleven he was just done with the booster seat in the car.  The shoulder strap in our cars isn't adjustable so we had the booster seats for longer than we might have otherwise kept them just to be safer.

My daughter has always kept pace with him in growth and she's been tall enough for a while not to need the booster seat but she's wanted to keep it.  Until a few weeks ago when she started preferring the empty seat for rides when her brother wasn't in the car.   The other day I asked her if she was ready to be done with the booster seat and this time she said yes.

Eleven-and-a-half years we've had some sort of contraption or other in our cars to keep the children safe.  Rear-facing car seats, five point harness car seats, backed car seats and then finally booster seats or the prior iteration without the backs.

It's odd to not see them in the back.  It's also very nice not to have to move them around when we have other people ride with us.  I won't miss them.

The Big Boy Update:  My son "forgets" he's brushed his teeth and then eats something like candy just before bed.   Not that he's allowed, but he was tempted tonight by his sister's piñata busting and honestly, how can you blame him when three pounds of candy is flying all over the living room?

The Tiny Girl Chronicles:  For Father's Day tonight my daughter wanted to have him break her piñata that she bought with her own money.  He graciously let her break it apart for him after he took one or two hits. Every time candy would fall she would dive down and find it.   She could find it without fighting against sighted, scrambling children.   She was so very happy with just the joy of collecting it.   I don't think she even ate any.
